I was raised Methodist and based on what I saw going on in the church, wanted
nothing to do with it. A divorce and a close friend provided the impetus for a
second look at “religion”. I joined a local Church and over the next four years,
began the quest to sort it all out in my mind. Fortunately, at least for me, I had
discovered some year’s prior, Dr. Gene Scott, when installing earth stations back in
the early days of satellite television and had been watching him almost daily.
Watching Scott and time spent at the “first great white church on the corner”
confirmed for me the difference between religion and a relationship with a personal
God - which is what Christianity is and what sets it apart from religions of the
world. A personal experience that cannot be fully shared with others and neither
can it be explained adequately unless that person has experienced one for
themselves. Sadly, most people fail to distinguish between the two and it got to the
point when ask if I was a Christian, I posed this question. “You give me your
description of a Christian and I’ll tell you if I am one”. Religions of the world - man’s
attempt to get to God - have so blurred the lines between the two that I decided to
go by another name. The traditional definition of a Paulinist just serves to illustrate
the ignorance that abounds concerning Christianity - IMHO. Paul was not at odds
with Christ but rather was instrumental in redirecting the apostles who were
trudging headlong back into Judaism, hence the term “Paulinst”. At the very least,
the tag serves to stir discussion, which is welcome.
