The project for Saturday the 19th of January 2008 |
We received the call on Friday the 11th just over a week ago. The voice on the other end was asking about a tower. I started to tell the receptionist to tell the party on the phone that we no longer sold or installed towers as we had shut down that part of the business about two years back. It was around 4 pm and we were winding down for the week so I took the call. Robin Porter was looking for a tower, maybe something in aluminum that would be easier to handle. I told him I was not a fan of aluminum towers and told him where he might find one. He then informed me that he was a Ham and that he had Parkinson's. We talked a little more and I agreed to stop by. I finally got by on the following Monday morning to meet Robin and to see what could be done to get him on the air. Robin's situation was an ideal fit for a Saturday project so I told him I would see what we could put together. After getting together with Sam, KC4TAQ, we decided we would put up 30 or 40 feet of R25, build a 40 and 75 meter dipole and install a two meter antenna. Robin ordered the two meter antenna and 100 feet of LDF400 and Sam and I started rounding up the rest of the hardware we needed to do the job. We finished around 4 pm with the 40 and 75 meter dipole at just above 40 feet and the two meter Diamond at 52 feet. The photos will tell the rest of the story. |
